The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino is a resort near Hollywood, Florida, United States, located on 100 acres (40 ha) of the Hollywood Reservation of the Seminole Tribe of Florida.[2] The hotel has a tower, a 140,000 sq ft (13,000 m2) casino, a poker room, a 4 acres (1.6 ha) lagoon-style pool area, restaurants, shops, a spa, bars and nightclubs, and "Hard Rock Live", a concert venue.[3][4]

Hotel

Construction work in progress, June 2018

The hotel has a 12-story Mediterranean-style tower with 469 guest rooms and suites with panoramic views.[5] Guests are greeted by a 50-foot (15 m) tall signature Hard Rock guitar, modeled after the one Jimi Hendrix played, at the entrance of the hotel.

Model, actress, TV personality Anna Nicole Smith, who was staying at the resort, died in her hotel room on February 8, 2007. Smith's death was declared an accidental overdose on sleeping medication.[6]

On May 9, 2014, Seminole chairman James Billie announced a $100 million upgrade of his tribe's casinos, with much of that spent on the Hard Rock, including an improved entryway and center bar, pool upgrades, updates to hotel rooms and suites, and a new restaurant.[7] As of March 2018, preparations were underway for expansion through 2019, which will include "construction of an iconic hotel tower and resort."[8] As of June 2018, a new guitar-shaped building remains under construction at the site.

Casino

The casino covers over 140,000 sq ft (13,000 m2) featuring slot machines and various table games including blackjack, baccarat, mini baccarat, Pai Gow poker, Let It Ride and three card poker.[9] The casino does not have live craps and roulette, although there are electronic versions of those games available. As of June 2018, the poker room is located in a former ballroom area, relocated from its prior venue due to ongoing construction work.

Blackjack is the most popular card game in the United States and was an addition to the casino. In a deal valued at $1.1 billion, former Governor Charlie Crist gave the Seminole Tribe a license for blackjack in its casinos. In exchange, The Seminole Tribe loaned the State of Florida $1.1 billion over the course of two years. The deal received criticism since it was announced in 2009. The addition of blackjack to the Hard Rock casinos in Hollywood and Tampa gave credibility to its claim of being a major gambling destination.[10]

Entertainment

Hard Rock Live

The Hard Rock Live is the resort's 5,500 seat arena. The arena hosts headline musical acts, well-known comedians, boxing and other events. On February 1, 2009, Billy Joel played at the Hard Rock Live, a show in which he received a five star rating on his website. Entertainment includes basketball, rodeo, and indoor football.

Hard Rock Event Center

A new event center is scheduled to open on March 10, 2018, becoming "the newest premier South Florida location for live concerts and shows."[8] Britney Spears will perform three sold out shows there on July 27, 28 and 29, 2018 as part of her Piece of Me Tour.[11]
