Saturday Mash-Up! is a British Saturday morning children's magazine entertainment programme on CBBC and BBC Two[1] first broadcast on 30 September 2017.[2] It is presented by Jonny Nelson, Yasmin Evans and Hacker T. Dog.[3]
It is CBBC's first series in this genre since TMi moved to Fridays in 2010. It is said to "continue the tradition of iconic Saturday morning programmes such as Live & Kicking, Going Live!, Saturday Superstore and Multi-Coloured Swap Shop."[2]
A second series has been commissioned, which started on 29 September 2018 and aired on CBBC (with repeats on BBC One from the previous saturday mornings), there was also a weekend of programmes live from the CBBC Summer Social. The series was commisoned for a extra 4 episodes making the total number of episodes 16. With a Special Christmas episode on 25 December 2018 on CBBC and BBC One also including a live music edition of the Show on 30 December 2018 On CBBC BBC One and 4Music to make it special Followed by the extra 4 episodes of Series 2 On 5 January 2019, 12 January 2019, 19 January 2019, and 26 January 2019 Followed by Saturday Mash up best bits on 27 January 2019.
Format
Every week, the series broadcasts live from MediaCityUK in Salford. The show consists of celebrity guests, gunge, games, sketches, alongside CBBC shows,[4] and focuses on a live chat with kids across the United Kingdom, either on the phone, or a web chat.
Segments
A puppet head of a dinosaur also appears each week, often signing a song before coughing up smoke and being forced to stop as well as making comments and helping with the viewer comments each show
Gunging
The viewers watching the show voted on who they wanted to be gunged between two or three options. The only exception was the first show when the mash-up monarch chose Steve Backshall to be gunged.
How Many Things in the Thing?
A number of an object (for example, footballs) are placed into another object (for example, a phonebox). Viewers at home on the phone must guess what number of an object is in the other object.
Make Me Viral
Viewers are asked to send in a picture of themselves doing something different each week (for example, throwing away their homework).
Mash-Up Monarch
Each week, a viewer watching at home is chosen to make various decisions to make. These include choosing what episode of a programme to show and choosing who does a task like tidying up the studio or eating a gross item.
Push Off
Two celebrities must push a shopping trolley into a pyramid of 600 toilet rolls to see how many they can collect. Each toilet roll is worth 1 point, with the golden toilet roll being worth 10 points and the brown toilet roll causing them to lose 5 points. They can choose between 3 trollies, which change each week. The loser is hit in the face with two custard pies.
Stars Behind Bars
A celebrity is 'locked up in jail' and answers as many questions they can in 100 seconds.
