Raina is a village in Raina I CD Block in Bardhaman Sadar South subdivision of Purba Bardhaman district in the state of West Bengal, India.

Raina police station has jurisdiction over Raina I CD Block. The area covered is 266.43 km2.[1][2]

Demographics

As per the 2011 Census of India Raina had a total population of 5,157, of which 2,619 (51%) were males and 2,538 (49%) were females. Population below 6 years was 494. The total number of literates in Raina was 3,872 (83.04% of the population over 6 years).[3]

As per the 2011 Census of India Rainagar, adjacent to Raina, had a total population of 1,479, of which 768 (52%) were males and 703 (48%) were females. Population below 6 years was 108. The total number of literates in Rainagar was 1,128 (82.28% of the population over 6 years).[3]

Transport

Rainagar is a station on the Bankura-Mathnasipur sector of Bankura-Masagram line, which has been operational since 2011.The rail station actually located in Raina, the villagers want to change the previous name Rainagar since the leftfront period.[4][5]

Raina is connected with Burdwan town, Tarokeshor, Memary directly by road.

Education

Education system was strong even before independence. Raina Swami Bholananda Vidyayatan (RSBV) established in 1894, higher secondary standard. Raina Jagathmata Anchalik Balika Vidyalaya established later in 1963 by some Muslim education activist. All the high qualified professionals i.e. engineer, professor, postgraduate doctor, administrator, teacher etc. are the ex-students of RSBV.
