"Peter's Def Jam" is the twelfth episode of the fifteenth season of the animated sitcom Family Guy, and the 281st episode overall. It aired on Fox in the United States on February 12, 2017, and is written by Anthony Blasucci and directed by Joe Vaux.[1]

Plot

At the Drunken Clam, Peter, Quagmire, Cleveland, and Joe have a boring conversation that leads to them deciding to create a podcast. On their second podcast, Peter accidentally makes a popular mixed song by playing "The Gambler" simultaneously with electronic music and Chris' birth video. The owner of a club asks the guys to be DJs, and they swiftly agree. When Lois finds out about the DJ gig, she protests, but Peter rebuffs her. The group becomes a hit at the club and the owner asks Peter to be the headliner for an upcoming music festival called the Electric Clam Festival. Peter wants to consult his friends, but the owner tells him that he would do better without them. When rehearsing at his home, Quagmire, Cleveland, and Joe visit him to gripe about him ditching them, but Peter drives them off with loud noise.

The next morning, Peter discovers that the loud music has made him deaf. Peter goes to the Drunken Clam and tells Quagmire, Cleveland, and Joe of his condition. He asks them for help, but, because of his treatment of them, they decline. At the Pawtucket Brewery, Peter bemoans his problems to his deaf co-worker Stella and admits to feeling bad about the way he treated his friends. Quagmire, Cleveland, and Joe then arrive and, through text, tell Peter that they have reconsidered and agree to help him. They go to the Electric Clam Festival, but Peter accidentally plays the audiobook of Are You There, Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea. None of them can get it to stop and the audience disperses.

The following day, Peter tells the guys that he got fired from his DJ job and reveals that it wasn't the loud music that made him go deaf, but "fistfuls of Oxycontin". The four friends then reconcile.

Meanwhile, Lois suffers from allergy symptoms and suspects that Brian is the cause of it, so she has Brian sleep in Stewie's room, much to the latter's elation. When Brian moves in, he and Stewie get along well at first. Soon enough, though, Brian turns Stewie's room into a pigsty, upsetting Stewie. Brian stubbornly refuses to leave. Later on, Stewie buys a ferret to try and scare Brian out, causing a fight between the two. Lois comes in and tells Brian that he can come back to his room, as it is revealed that he was not making Lois sneeze; it was Peter stuffing hay into his pillows. Before Brian leaves, he and Stewie apologize to each other for not trying to be better roommates.

Cultural references

At the Clam, Peter plays "The Gambler" by Kenny Rogers. A cutaway flashback to Peter and his friends going bird watching shows they watched Larry Bird, whom they identified as a "yellow-headed puffin face." Quagmire states that if he wanted to hear a black man ramble like a lunatic, he would watch Family Feud. Stewie mentions seeing the film A Dangerous Method, in which Michael Fassbender spanks Keira Knightley.

Several of the sounds that make up the guys' song at their first gig are running gags from the show, including Quagmire saying "giggity," Peter saying "shut up, Meg," and Cleveland saying "that's nasty". Peter mentioning that his kid's baseball team came in second place may be a reference to the episode "Bookie of the Year." Brian and Stewie play a board game called "Tom Sizemore's Game of Life". When Stewie accuses Brian of having a flea infestation, Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea enters the room.

Peter discovers he has gone deaf while watching an episode of Garfield and Friends. At the Electric Clam Festival, Peter accidentally plays the audio tape of Chelsea Handler's Are You There, Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea. On the tape, Handler talks about various things she can fit in her vagina. In the middle of the episode, Joe plays Golden Tee Golf. At the end he plays Big Buck Hunter.
