"Carter and Tricia" is the eighth episode of the fifteenth season of the animated sitcom Family Guy, and the 277th episode overall. It aired on Fox in the United States on December 4, 2016, and is written by Patrick Meighan and directed by Mike Kim. In this episode, Lois' father Carter Pewterschmidt and news reporter Tricia Takanawa get into an unexpected relationship after a situation happens with the former managing the Pawtucket Patriot Brewery. Meanwhile, Brian loses his driver's license, and Stewie becomes his driving instructor.

Plot

When the Griffins discover that Lois Griffin's father Carter Pewterschmidt now owns the Pawtucket Patriot Brewery, the unscrupulous rich man proceeds to humiliate Peter in many situations like making him sport a ski tan and not talk about it to working at a standing desk. When Peter overhears Carter talking to Angela and other top employees that he plans to save money by putting some toxic chemicals in the beer cans, he attempts to persuade reporter Tricia Takanawa to investigate him. Since Peter lacks evidence of Carter's plan, Tricia decides to get close to Carter to get the truth out of him. It is also shown that Ollie Williams also has a standing desk.

Meanwhile, Brian Griffin gets pulled over by Joe Swanson for running a red light. Joe tells Brian that his driver's license is expired and confiscates it. Stewie appoints himself as Brian's driving teacher after hearing about what happened to him. After showing Brian a crudely made driver's ed film with Stewie being the only one acting in it as all the characters, he starts coaching Brian with the unorthodox method of shouting "IPDE", but Brian finds it unethical.

When Tricia goes to Carter, he becomes instantly smitten with her to the point where he leaves Babs at the Sanitarium since she went crazy due to Carter leaving her and proceeds to date Tricia. When the Griffin family attends a dinner at Carter's mansion commemorating the new relationship, Peter takes a liking to Tricia as a potential maternal figure due to her show of discipline calling her his "tiger mom." During sex with Carter, she gets him to admit his plan to put the toxic chemicals in the Pawtucket Patriot beer cans and exposes his confession with her camera crew that was hiding in Carter's closet and Tricia breaks off their relationship. It is also shown that Chris Griffin is Tricia's intern working the boom equipment.

At the DMV, Brian tells Stewie that IPDE did him some help at getting a new license. Not because of the driving itself, but because that the driver's ed teacher spilled hot coffee on his lap when looking up the meaning of IPDE and will pass Brian swiftly if he drives him home from the hospital.

Hitting a depression, Carter and Peter decide to humiliate Tricia at the local Emmy Awards dinner in retaliation. They plan to spike her drink with a drug that will make her vomit, defecate and go through an orgasm all at the same time. Carter claims that the compound in question had something to tie in with the allegations on Bill Cosby. When the trap is set, they notice Tricia's mother Irene (who was last seen in "12 and a Half Angry Men") giving her a hard time, causing them to be sympathetic. When Peter discovers that he was using her to replace the deceased Thelma Griffin, he takes the bait for Tricia, causing his body to go through a few grotesque functions that were meant for Tricia.

At the Griffin home, Lois is glad that the debacle with Tricia has subsided. When Meg wonders about what's going to happen to Babs, Peter assures Meg that Babs will return when they need her since Carter and Babs always cheat on each other but ends up back together. Brian thanks Stewie for helping him get his driver's license renewed. Stewie then threateningly tells Brian that he owes him for it. When Brian is about to agree to it, Stewie excitedly asks Brian to take him out for ice cream and proceeds to go out to Brian's car where he waits for him.
