Nord University (Norwegian: Nord universitet; Southern Sami: Noerhte universitete; Lule Sami: Nuortta universitiehtta)[1] is a state university in Norway. Established in 2016, as a merger of the University of Nordland, Nesna University College, and Nord-Trøndelag University College, it is located in Bodø, where most of its 12,000 students reside.

Having 1,200 employees and 12,000 students, Nord University is located in Bodø, with subsidiary campuses in Stokmarknes, Mo i Rana, Nesna, and Sandnessjøen in Nordland as well as Levanger, Steinkjer, Namsos, and Stjørdal in Trøndelag.[2] Subdivisions include the High North Center.

Nord University maintains 180 programmes within both academic and professional studies, including aquaculture, nurse education, and teacher education.[2] A member of the University of the Arctic, Nord University is also among universities offering circumpolar studies.

History

Established on 1 January 2016 following a resolution of 9 October 2015 by the King-in-Council, Nord University is a merger of the University of Nordland, Nesna University College, and Nord-Trøndelag University College.[3] The Norwegian word for North, Nord emphasises the university's ambition of representing and devoting itself to northern regions.
