Neenah High School is a public high school in the north central United States, located in Neenah, Wisconsin. It is the only traditional high school of the Neenah Joint School District. As of fall 2008, approximately 2250 students were enrolled in grades 9 through 12, making it one of the largest schools in the state.[1] The school colors are red and white and the mascot is the rocket, although prior to the Cold War school teams were known as "The Reds".

Academics

Neenah uses a semester schedule with seven classes; each of those classes are 53 minutes long. The school formerly operated on a trimester system, but switched to a semester system for the 2011–2012 school year due to budget constraints. 140 teachers, seven counselors, six administrators, and 40 support staff make up the faculty.

History

The school consists of three buildings: the Neil Armstrong building, the James B. Conant building (formerly a middle school), and a large building connecting the two known simply as "The Link". Before moving to its present campus in southwest Neenah, the high school was at 600 Elm Street, the current Shattuck Middle School. Its original building on the south side of Division Street was constructed in the late 1920s, with renovations and expansions in the 1950s.

Extracurricular activities

Athletics

NHS athletic teams compete in the Fox Valley Association, and have won an FVA-leading 30 state titles. Neenah has long had a rivalry with neighboring city Menasha. The Rockets' boys' basketball team finished second in Division I at the state basketball tournament in 2014.[2]

Performing arts

Neenah has two competitive show choirs, an advanced group called Vintage and an intermediate group called Act II.[3]

Media

Neenah High was featured on episode of the MTV television series If You Really Knew Me which aired on Tuesday, September 14, 2010.
