Murtaza (also spelled Mortaza or Morteza) (Persian: مرتضى, Arabic: مرتضى) is a common Arabic name, is a variant transcription of Murtadha, meaning "chosen".[2] It is an Islamic name that dates back to the time of Islamic prophet Muhammad.
