Mary-Margaret McMahon ( listen) (born July 6, 1966, in Collingwood, Ontario) is a Canadian politician, who was first elected to Toronto City Council in the 2010 city council election, defeating Speaker Sandra Bussin in Ward 32 (Beaches—East York).[2]

Background

Born and raised in Collingwood, Ontario, she is the daughter of former Collingwood mayor Ron Emo and Gloria Emo (1940–2011). McMahon is one of four children, including brothers Michael, Stephen and Timothy. McMahon has a bachelor's degree in French literature from Carleton University in Ottawa. Since 1989, McMahon has resided in the Beaches - East York area.[3] She describes herself as a "fiscally conservative environmentalist."[4]

McMahon is a community activist and former teacher of English as a second language. She has helped organize a farmers' market in Danforth and helped organize an anti-idling campaign at her children's school. She formerly worked as a community animator for Toronto's Live Green Toronto project.[5]

In October 2017 McMahon announced she will not be running for re-election in 2018, confirming a promise made when she was first elected in 2010.[6]
