Biography
Youth and education
Collins graduated from Prattville High School in Prattville, Alabama and attended the University of Alabama, where she originally studied chemistry and later transitioned to journalism, political science and was a member of Alpha Phi sorority.
Career
After graduating from the University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Arts in journalism and political science in May 2014, Collins began working as a freelance writer and blogger.[4]
In June 2014, Collins was hired by The Daily Caller as an entertainment reporter; she became the website's White House correspondent in January 2017.[5] In 2017, Collins joined CNN as a White House correspondent.[2] She traveled with President Trump in Asia.[6]
Dispute with the White House
In July 2018, she was suspended from an official White House press conference for what she claimed was asking "inappropriate" questions. The officials, however, alleged that she "shouted questions and refused to leave despite repeatedly being asked to do so" [7][8] Jay Wallace, president of Fox News, issued a statement in support of Collins, saying that his organization "[stood] in strong solidarity with CNN for the right to full access for our journalists as part of a free and unfettered press."[8]
The White House said she was barred for her behaviour, not the questions she asked.[9] Collins had asked if President Donald Trump felt betrayed by Michael Cohen. The White House declined to use the word "banned" to describe the actions they took.[10]
Homophobic slurs
On October 7, 2018, Collins issued a statement apologizing for her use of homophobic slurs on Twitter while in college.[11]
