Kate Abdo (née Giles; born 8 September 1981) is an English presenter and journalist. She is currently a presenter and host of various programs on Turner Sports and Fox Sports, mostly Turner's Champions League and Europa League coverage. She formerly worked for Sky Sports News in the United Kingdom and Sky Sport News HD in Germany.

Broadcasting career

Abdo anchored the World Sport program from London twice a day. Previously, she had anchored sports at the German international news network Deutsche Welle for their English and German-language services. Abdo joined CNN in July 2009. She interviewed sporting greats such as Clarence Seedorf, David Ginola, Jackie Stewart, and Lawrence Dallaglio. In August 2011 she left CNN and joined Sky Deutschland. She was an anchor for the Sky Sport News HD TV channel, which started broadcasting on 1 December 2011.

That year, while still at Sky Deutschland she hosted the draw of the Europa League in Monaco.[1]

In July 2013, she started hosting on Sky Sports News in the United Kingdom. She hosted the Coppa Italia on Sky Sports.[2]

In January 2015, she hosted the 2014 FIFA Ballon d'Or ceremony speaking with contestants and guests in four languages.[3][4] She was also a host for the 2015 FIFA Ballon d'Or. In January 2017, Abdo joined Fox Sports in the United States. On 16 May 2018, Abdo was announced as the presenter of Turner Sports's UEFA Champions League coverage when it takes over from Fox as the US broadcaster of the tournament in August 2018, on a loan from Fox Sports.

After the announcement, Abdo said of her newly appointed role,  "I'm over the moon to be involved on this with Turner, whose networks lead the way in creative and engaging sports coverage. I look forward to us doing more of the same with soccer and the most prestigious competition in the game—the Champions League."[5]

Personal life

Born in Manchester as Kate Giles, she studied at Withington Girls' School and later graduated from the University of Salford with a first-class BA (Hons) in European Languages and Journalism for the University of Malaga in Spain [2] Before moving to London, Abdo lived in Spain, France and Germany, and is fluent in Spanish, French, and German in addition to her native English. In 2010 she married German businessman Ramtin Abdo.[6]
