The Huawei P20 and Huawei P20 Pro are high-end Android smartphones made by Huawei. They were announced on March 27, 2018, as the successors to the Huawei P10 series.[1][2] Its features included a Leica dual camera for P20 and a triple camera for P20 Pro,[3] this series includes a mid-range smartphone called Huawei P20 Lite, that includes slightly lower specifications and differences to the P20.

Specifications

The Huawei P20 mobile features a 5.8" (14.73 cm) display with a screen resolution of 1080×2240 pixels and runs on Android v8.1 (Oreo) operating system. The device is powered by Octa core (2.36 GHz, Quad core, Cortex A73 + 1.8 GHz, Quad core, Cortex A53) processor paired with 4 GB of RAM. The battery has a capacity of 3400 mAh. The rear camera has a 12 MP camera CMOS sensor supporting a resolution of 4.000 x 3.000 Pixels and the front camera has a 24 MP CMOS sensor. Other sensors include Light sensor, Proximity sensor, Accelerometer, Compass, Gyroscope, and a fingerprint sensor. For graphical performance, it includes a Mali-G72 MP12 GPU. The standard amount of storage is 128 GB. The Huawei P20 is 7.65 mm slim and weighs 165 grams.

The Huawei P20 Pro with triple cameras was called "the three-camera iPhone killer" by The Guardian.[4] The price of the Huawei P20 Pro is lower compared to the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus and the Apple iPhone X.[5] The first lens has 40MP RGB, the second lens has 20MP monochrome and the third lens has 8MP RGB telephoto 3x with optical image stabilization. The combination of the first lens and the second lens will produce an image with larger high dynamic range. The combination of the first lens and the third lens will produce an image with 3× optical zoom and then further digitally to 5× digital zoom without loss of quality; it is called Huawei Hybrid Zoom.[6]

Reception

In April 2018, Alphr called the P20 Pro version "the most interesting phone of 2018".[7]

Known issues

Google Maps Timeline History

According to many reports,[8] some Huawei phones – including the P20 and P20 Pro, but not limited to these – suffer from the same issue: Google Maps doesn't track visited locations properly or at all. There are some alleged fixes for this, including clearing some cache areas, but it seems to be related to the presence of more than one Google account configured in the system.

Huawei has been contacted by multiple users about this issue but as of August 2018 it is yet to be fixed.
