Haymill Valley
Haymill Valley is a local nature reserve in Berkshire, England, between the village of Burnham in Buckinghamshire, Britwell in Slough and Slough Trading Estate.[1] The site is known locally as The Millie.[2] The nature reserve is owned by Slough Borough Council with a small part owned by the Environment Agency, it is under the management of the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust.[3]
Geography and site
The site is 8.0 hectares (20 acres) in size.[4] The site features ancient woodland with extensive reed beds and ponds fed by Two-Mill Brook (also known as Two_Mile Brook), which flows from Burnham Beeches into the Thames.[3] At the reserves southernmost end is a site of an ancient watermill.[3]
The site features a pair of 7 foot metal sculptures of Kingfishers called the Millie Kingfishers, which were added in 2008.[5]
History
Haymill Valley Nature Reserve was declared a local nature reserve status in 1994 by Slough Borough Council.[6]
