EuroBasket 2021 qualification

The EuroBasket 2021 qualifiers started in 2017.

Pre-Qualifiers

The EuroBasket 2021 Pre-Qualifiers will be played by 17 teams over three rounds. The best 8 teams will advance to the EuroBasket 2021 Qualifiers.

First round

The pre-qualifiers first round was played by 9 teams: 5 did not manage to advance to the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup qualification First round, and 3 teams that did not participate in it.

The winner of each group and the best runner-up team qualified for the second round, that gives the option to qualify directly to the EuroBasket qualifiers.[1] The other five teams were dropped to the third round, joining the teams that did not advance to the EuroBasket qualifiers from the second round.[2]

Second round

The second round will be played by 12 teams: the 4 teams qualified from the first round, and the 8 teams eliminated from the first round of the 2019 World Cup qualification.

Teams were be divided into four groups of three teams, where the four group winners will qualify to the EuroBasket qualifiers. Groups were set on 16 January 2018 in Freising, Germany.[4]

Cyprus replaced Armenia, who withdrew, citing financial concerns.[3]

Third round

The third round will be joined by four teams eliminated in the first round and the eight teams that played the second round and did not advance to the EuroBasket qualifiers. Only four teams will join the EuroBasket qualifiers. This round will be played in the August 2019.

Teams qualified from the second round and the rest of the teams will join this round and will be divided into eight groups of four teams, where the three first qualified of each one will join the main round.
