Tournament details
Teams 24

The EuroBasket 2021 will be the 41st edition of the EuroBasket championship that is organized by FIBA Europe, and the first since it was agreed to take place every four years, with a similar system of qualification as for the FIBA Basketball World Cup.[1]

Hosts selection

Host country or countries are yet to be determined. For EuroBasket 2015 and 2017, FIBA Europe opened three bidding options for hosting: to host a preliminary group, to host the final round, or to host the entire tournament. In the end, each of these two tournaments was hosted in four cities in four different countries.

There are press reports about the following countries interested in hosting EuroBasket 2021:

It was reported in September 2017 that Spain is interested in hosting EuroBasket 2021 together with Italy, France and Greece.[2] However in early November 2017, the president of the Spanish Basketball Federation Jorge Garbajosa was reported to only formalize the presentation of a joint candidacy with the Italian Basketball Federation.[3] FIP has proposed venues in Turin for the Final phase and Bologna for the Group phase respectively.[4]

Format

A number of 24 qualified are expected to play the main round.

Qualification

The qualification started in November 2017, with nine teams participating in the pre-qualifiers, including the five eliminated teams from the 2019 World Cup European Pre-Qualifiers.
