7 years later

Sandhya and Sooraj are living happily with their son Ved Rathi (Devyansh Tapuriah). After some twists and turns, the Rathis find out that Sandhya and Sooraj's other twin son Vansh Rathi (Ricky Patel) never died, but was raised by Ankur, who plotted the whole kidnapping fiasco, and Ankita. Sandhya cuts all ties with her brother, but lets him keep the child for the sake of her son Vansh's happiness.

Sandhya is appointed for an extremely jepardious mission, titled Mahabhali, to track a dangerous terrorist and defeat him on his own territory. Therefore, she has to leave her family and enact her own death in a train accident for the sake of the country's safety.

3 months later

Everybody in the family believe that Sandhya is dead. Sooraj (who was present at Sandhya's accident) has lost his mental stability due to the shock of witnessing his wife's death and refuses to believe she's gone. Bhabho now hates Sandhya as she holds her responsible for Sooraj's condition.

Now, Bhabho wants Sooraj to remarry to a girl, named Laalima Agarwal (Shefali Sharma), for whom she believes, is able to help him get better. Meanwhile, Sandhya is shown to be alive, struggling with the difficulties of Mahabhali Mission in an outlying Bengali village, under the name of Segarika Taas.

Later, Sandhya discovers that the terrorists are planning to force the government to capitulate, using nuclear weapons. She eventually manages to sabotage their plan but her true identity is exposed and the terrorists capture and almost torture her to death.

By the accident, Sooraj finds out Sandhya is indeed alive which restores his sanity. After lots of insisting, the police agrees to send Sooraj on the mision and help Sandhya. After many challenges, he rescues her, the leader of the terrorists is killed and the others arrested, and after successfully completing the mission, Sandhya and Sooraj return home safe and sound. However, Bhabho refuses to forgive Sandhya, who also faces a stiff competition in the face of Laalima, who falls in love with Sooraj, but Sooraj and Sandhya's love wins and Bhabho forgives her.

Later, Sooraj's youngest brother Mohit Rathi (Varun Jain) is shot to death after attempting to molest Laalima. The police suspect Laalima's brother Lokesh Agarwal (Akshay Batchu) but Bhabho confesses to the crime. With the help of women's rights activists, Sandhya bails her out which strengthens their mother-in-law and daughter-in-law bond.

The story later focuses on the latest addition to the Rathi Family: a Pakistani girl named Arzoo Khan (Prachi Tehlan). Bhabho hates Pakistan because of a tragic accident on the border which took her younger brother's life when they were children.

Not knowing Arzoo is from Pakistan, Bhabho fixes her alliance with her foster son, Aryan Rathi aka Chotu (Randeep Rai/Kunal Khosla). Initially, Sandhya suspects Arzoo of being a terrorist but later not only saves her from the terrible misunderstanding, but also helps her get accepted by Bhabho as her daughter-in-law.

Sooraj meets with an accident and is stuck in a wheelchair. Thus, he is unable to run his confectionary shop anymore and Sandhya decides to take it over, leaving her dreamed and hardly-achieved job in the police aside, much to Sooraj and the family's displeasure. She gets to know about her 2nd pregnancy and delivers a daughter. Overjoyed Sooraj overcomes his disability and is able to walk and run his shop again. The daughter is named Kanak which means "gold". Sandhya gets a proposal from the commissioner and decides to join the police again. There she meets IPS Arpita Khanna (Rishina Kandhari), who considers Sandhya as her rival at 1-st, but later becomes 1 of her best allies.

After many theme changes in the show (including the return of Rajkumar and Sandhya and Ankur's reconciliation), as well as challenges and adventures of Sandhya and her family, the story finally comes to the long-expected denouement. Vansh discovers the truth of his birth parents but hates them for giving him away.

4 terrorists take the residents of the Rathis' neighbourhood hostage, including them. Sandhya and Sooraj bravely rescue the civilians. Upon seeing his parents' selflesness and courage, Vansh forgives them and the family is reunited, but not for long. Sandhya and Sooraj unsuccessfully try to set a trap for the terrorists and to punish them, they kidnap Ved and Kanak.

The terrorist's leader makes Sandhya and Sooraj eat bomb pills to save Kanak. Eventually, the terrorists are arrested by Arpita, the police and the army but Sandhya and Sooraj are informed that the pills cannot be removed from their bodies and that they have 30 minutes before they explode.

They bid their farewell to their family and jump into the river before exploding. The show ends with Sandhya's mangalsutra and Sooraj's chain becoming entangled in the water before the setting Sun, highlighting that even death cannot separate them.

Anas Rashid was cast^[4] as Sooraj as Lead Protagonist of the show, Deepika Singh opposite Rashid was cast as Sandhya While Kanika Maheshwari^[5] was cast as the Main Antagonist of the show. Recently (December 2012), According to the Producers of the Show, There will be a new cast member, Kiran Bhargava^[6] will be entering in the show with a Reprise roles, The Story will be focusing on Sandhya's Dream, Where she decide to fulfill her dream, She joins a Night College The Situation will be worse for her, Sooraj and his Family is unaware about Sandhya's decision, Kiran^[6] is the owner of the Night College.

National and international broadcast

It is dubbed in Telugu on MAA TV as Eetharam Illalu. In the Tamil it airs under the title, En Kanavan En Thozhan on Star Vijay. However both Telugu and Tamil dubbed versions were discontinued by their respective channels after airing more than 1000 episodes. Internationally it airs in Sri Lanka dubbed into Sinhala as Swapna on Sirasa TV and in Vietnam dubbed in Vietnamese as Vợ tôi là cảnh sát on VTVCab 5 Echannel, although the ending was altered with the family celebrating.^[11][12] It also airs in Afghanistan in Pashto on Lmar TV as د مینې ډيوه.^[13] On 2 January 2017 Dyia Aur Baati Hum started airing also in Slovakia as Sandhya - svetlo môjho života. It also began airing on CVM Television in Jamaica on 1 May 2017, as Made For Each Other. It also began airing on TV1 in Lithuania as "Mano gyvenimo šviesa" In Indonesia, the series is dubbed in Indonesian under the title Sandya, and airs on Indosiar.

It also airs successfully in Romania as'Destine Implinite', Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Bulgaria as 'Svetlinata Na moya jivot', Macedonia, Russia as 'Svet tvoey lyubvi', Kazakhstan, Sri Lanka, Thailand as 'Likhit rak ni pheux thex', Vietnam, Uganda, Nigeria, Lithuania, Georgia as 'Dinastia', Cambodia as 'Veasna kon brosa srey',Indonesia and Pakistan and is watched by more than 148 Million viewers worldwide.^[14]

Remakes

The series was dubbed in other languages throughout India including

• Marathi remake entitled Mansicha Chitrakaar To on Star Pravah**
• Malayalam as Parasparam on Asianet
• Bengali as Tomay Amay Mile on Star Jalsha
• Kannada as Akashadeepa on Asianet Suvarna .

However the Bengali and Marathi versions were stopped after several episodes. While the Malayalam version has completed 1524 episodes which was more than the original version on Asianet. It was one of the top rated serial on Malayalam Television .
