Timeline

  • Channel 3 Zamboanga started as GMA-3 Zamboanga, an affiliate of RT Broadcasting Specialist, Inc. in 1976. During that time, it was then called as "Pioneer 3 Zamboanga".
  • ABS-CBN Zamboanga first aired in late 1986 on channel 9 through its affiliate, the now defunct First United Broadcasting Corporation, which in 1995 changed network affiliation to the GMA Network as part of the latter's national expansion. Programs were aired from 12:00 noon to 11:00pm, weekdays, and 9:00am to 12:00 m.n. on weekends. Local programming aired then on FUBC-9 were Cuentas Claras and FUBC News, the former affiliate of the national newscasts TV Patrol and The World Tonight. In 1991–1992, programs of 101.9 Radio Romance (now MOR 101.9 For Life!) were aired on its radio station 99.5 Eazy FM. ABS-CBN 9 carried a variant of the Star Network identification package in 1988-1989 in conjunction with the debut of satellite transmissions to the Sulu Archipelago and the entire Zamboanga Peninsula bringing a mix of both local and national programming (the latter from Channel 2 Manila), with the white star holding the tail of the white colored number 9 (later tri-colored in red, green and blue matching the national idents).
  • January 1, 1995 – ABS-CBN Zamboanga moved its frequency to Channel 3, which is now wholly owned by ABS-CBN Corporation.
  • March 1995 (Cebu City) - The station was one of the first stations airing Cebu-produced ABS-CBN programs under the Regional Network Group; the others being ABS-CBN 2 Cagayan de Oro, ABS-CBN 3 General Santos and ABS-CBN 4 Davao during the launching of two Visayan drama series "Kang Kinsa Isabwag ang Mga Bulak" and "Siya ug Ako sa Kangitngit" along with the original sitcom "Milyonaryong Mini". The RNG successfully expanded into the rest of the Visayas and Mindanao in 1996 and later into Luzon later that year.
  • MOR 98.7 For Life! Zamboanga, its radio station, was launched in the first quarter of 1995 as 98.7 Star Radio Zamboanga. It was originally owned by Sundance Apolinario of 4H Class 1980 (Hence the acronym FH).
