The Commander Amphibious Task Group, (COMATG) is a senior British Royal Navy appointment the office holder commands the Amphibious Task Group from August 1971 to current.

History

First established in August 1971 as Commodore, Amphibious Warfare Group (COMAWG) until 1 December 1997 when the post is renamed Commander, Amphibious Task Group.[1] From 1971 to 1979 the post holder reported to Flag Officer, Carriers and Amphibious Ships. From 1979 to 1992 he reported to the Flag Officer, Third Flotilla.[2] Following the 2010 Strategic Defence and Security Review and implemented in January 2011 the Commander UK Task Group became Deputy Commander United Kingdom Maritime Forces. The same month the Commander Amphibious Task Group assumes the role of COMUKTG while the UK Amphibious Task Group is renamed to be the Response Force Task Group (RFTG). In March 2015 the post of Commander United Kingdom Task Group is renamed back to Commander Amphibious Task Group.[3]
