Zamindar's brother-in-law Bhaskar Rao (Rao Gopal Rao), a cruel person, looks after the estate affairs and waits for an opportunity to grab the property. The baby is protected by circus elephants and circus owner Chalapathi Rao (Allu Ramalingaiah) rears him by the name Ramu. But Janaki Devi delivers twins and the second child is named Raja. After some time, Bhaskar Rao's wife Tayaramma (Jhansi) gives birth to a baby girl Jaya and Bhaskar Rao plots a plan to make Raja's marriage with Jaya to fulfill his ambition. Years roll by, Raja (N. T. Rama Rao) becomes young and energetic, Jaya (Jaya Prada) also grows up along with him; both are good friends. Everyone wants them to marriy, but they do not have such an intention. Yugandhar (Prabhakar Reddy), personal lawyer to Zamindar, is a most efficient and loyal person who keeps check on Bhaskar Rao. Raja has good qualities, except he is habituated to alcohol due to the bad guidance of Bhaskar Rao. Once in a drunken state, he causes an accident and a person dies. Moving forward, he hits a tree and he gets injured and collapses. A woman, Ankamma (Sujatha) protects him, after recovery he sees the person whom he killed is Ankamma's father. Jaya scolds him and he gives up all his bad habits. Now Raja is burning out of contrition and wants to make penance for his sin. He goes to Ankamma, reveals the truth, asks her to punish him, but she forgives him. He starts loving her and decides to marry her. Zamindar does not agree to this match, so, he marries Ankamma in the temple in the presence of people of her village. Knowing this, Bhaskara Rao causes an accident to Raja, by which he loses his memory and becomes mad. Bhaskar Rao gives false information to Zamindar that Raja is dead and he dies of a heart attack. Bhaskar Rao hides Raja in a secret place and says that he has sent him to the USA for treatment. Meanwhile, Anakamma becomes pregnant, gives birth to a baby when she reaches the palace in search of her husband Bhaskar Rao, who throws her out. Yugandhar sees all these atrocities, to his fortune he encounters Circus Ramudu (again N. T. Rama Rao). Through Chalapathi Rao he learns the birth secret of Ramu. Ramu also listens to it and decides to teach a lesson to Bhaskar Rao. Ramu enters into the palace as Raja returning from the USA. Jaya recognizes Ramu because of her intimacy with Raja. Ramu reveals the entire story to her, she too joins hands with him and both of them fall in love. Now, Bhaskar Rao, stuck in the middle, can neither prove the prove the person acting as Raja is Ramu or show the original Raja. So, he brings Ankanmma before Ramu along with her villagers, he accepts her as his wife before everyone. Afterward, he tells her about the actual situation, all of them play a drama and find out Raja. Ramu Keeps Raja in the circus company and asks his men to take care of him. Now Ramu goes into Raja's place and starts teasing Bhaskar Rao. Eventually, Bhaskar Rao comes to know their drama, he bribes one of the circus employees and plans a jeep stunt with Raja to kill him.
