Chicken Salad Chick is a fast casual chain of chicken restaurants based in Auburn, Alabama.[1][2][3] As of June 2018, the chain consists of 91 franchise restaurants and stores.[4] Chicken Salad Chick has restaurants in Alabama, Florida,[5] Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. The company to expanded into Louisiana and Texas in 2016.[2][6] The company was founded in Auburn, Alabama, in 2008 by Stacy and Kevin Brown.[2][3]

History

The company's origins started with Stacy Brown selling her homemade chicken salad door-to-door in Auburn, Alabama.[1][2] The health department prohibited the sale of foods cooked in one's home, so the Browns devised a plan to open a restaurant.[1][2]

In 2016, Chicken Salad Chick was ranked #37 on the Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing companies in the U.S.[7][8]

Fare

The restaurant serves fifteen styles of chicken salad, which is served on bread or a bed of lettuce.[2][9] It also provides chicken salad by the pound for take-out and delicatessen-style sandwiches and side dishes.[2]

Philanthropy

The Chicken Salad Chick Foundation was founded by the company in August 2014 and is a partner with the American Cancer Society.[10] The foundation also partners with food banks in communities with Chicken Salad Chick restaurant locations in efforts to nourish people in need.[10] For example, in 2014, the foundation donated over $6,000 to the Chattanooga Area Food Bank.[11] Since the foundation's inception, Chicken Salad Chick restaurants have served to generate "...more than $100,000 in donations to fight cancer and hunger in the communities it serves".[12] Barclay Smith is the director of the foundation.[10]
