Chhattisgarh Express Cum Passenger (18237/18238) is a well known old Indian train which connects Bilaspur and Amritsar. Its name represents the state of Chhattisgarh.

It was first introduced in year 1978 as Bhopal - Bilaspur Chhattisgarh Aanchal Express and used to run between Bilaspur and Habibganj (Bhopal).

This train was the first train to originate from newly constructed sub-urban railway station Habibganj. In year 1980, the train was extended to main railway station of Bhopal; Bhopal Junction.

Later in year 1987, it was extended to Hazrat Nizamuddin as well as New Delhi and then finally in year 1990 to Amritsar.

Route

It runs through the states of Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana and Punjab and covers a distance of 2100 km.

Some of its major halts are :GEVRAROAD,KORBA,URGA,CHAMPA-JN,JANJGIR-NAILA,AKALTARA,JAIRAMNAGAR,Bilaspur Junction, Raipur Junction, Durg, Gondia Junction, Nagpur, Itarsi Junction, obedullaganj, Bhopal Junction, Jhansi Junction, Gwalior, Agra Cantonment, Mathura Junction, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Ghaziabad, Meerut City, Muzaffarnagar, Deoband, Saharanpur, Jagadhri, Ambala Cantt Junction, Ludhiana Junction, Jalandhar City, Amritsar.

Schedule Arrival/departure

Train No.18238 leaves for its destination stopAmritsar Jn (ASR) at 04:15 PM and reach Bilaspur Jn (BSP) at 12:20 PM on third day. During its return journey This train runs with the No.18237, leaving Bilaspur Jn (BSP) at 02:15 PM and reaching Amritsar Jn (ASR) at 08:10 AM on third day. The longest halt it takes during the journey is at Amla Jn for around 20-25 Min.[1]

This is an express train which runs on daily basis. The train from Bilaspur Junction is numbered as 18237 while from Amritsar is numbered as 18238. It contains 24 coaches. Its coach composition is SLR, G1, G2, HA1, A1, B1, B2, B3, S12, S11, PC, S10, S9, S8, S7, S6, S5, S4, S3, S2, S1, G3, G4; SLR, SP.

It gets WAP 4 of Itarsi shed from Bilaspur to Nagpur, then WAP 7 of Ajni shed from Nagpur to Amritsar railway station.

Extension History

  • Year 1977 - Introduced between Bhopal HabibGanj and Bilaspur Junction as Habibganj - Bilaspur Chhattisgarh Aanchal Express with 1 AC II Tier, 3 AC III Tier, 10 Sleeper, 6 General and 2 Slr.
  • Year 1980 - Extended to main railway station of Bhopal and ran as Bhopal - Bilaspur Chhattisgarh Aanchal Express
  • Year 1987 - 1988 - The train got a Pantry Car and was extended to Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station of Delhi by canceling Train No.1225/1226 Bhopal - Hazrat Nizamuddin Express and Extending Bilaspur - Bhopal Chhattisgarh Aanchal Express to Hazrat Nizamuddin. The prefix Aanchal was taken up and the train was independently known as Chhattisgarh Express
  • Year 1997 - Extended to Amritsar Junction
  • Year 1999 - Train got Slip coaches from Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh
  • Year 2018- from 06/10/2018 18237 is extended to gevraroad(korba) railway station now it is gevraroad-amritsar chhattisgarh express
