Cheswick is a new village bridging the South Gloucestershire and Bristol borders. It straddles the boundaries of Stoke Gifford, Filton and Lockleaze and lies close to the major employment sites of the University of the West of England (UWE), MOD Abbey Wood and Hewlett Packard. The development has two points of vehicular access: From the Abbey Wood Roundabout on the A4174 Avon Ring Road and from Coldharbour Lane, just south of the UWE East Entrance.

Development

Construction started in 2008[1] and is expected to be completed in 2015 with a total of 1100 houses. Prior to construction the land was part of Wallscourt farm and Hewlett Packard. The houses have been constructed by Redrow Homes, Elan Homes and Taylor Wimpey and local housing associations Curo Group (previously known as Somer Housing Group), Solon Housing, Sovereign Housing and Affinity Sutton. The structure of the village consists of a long central road called Long Down Avenue with a central village square to be constructed.

The Cheswick bus link opened on 17 September 2012,[2] the link is to cut journey times to U.W.E by avoiding the Avon Ringroad and Coldharbour Lane which often become congested, also it is to be link to the new proposed Romney Avenue Bus Link to Lockleaze to further cut journey times between U.W.E and central Bristol.

The buses which currently use this link are the First bus 70, 71, x18 & 18

Work is underway to a bus link from Romney Avenue into Cheswick Village via Danby Street and work is aiming to be completed within the next 12 months on this link. Once opened the number 72 will also travel through the village.

The village is within walking distance of Filton Abbey Wood Station and also has direct bus links to Bristol Parkway Station and Temple Meads Station.
