Chaman ganj (Hindi: चमन गंज, Urdu: چمن گنج) is a major residential area situated in the heart of Kanpur in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. In addition to residences, it also contains shopping complexes, restaurants, hotels, theaters and offices, it also has very old parks like Mohammad Ali Park and Humayun Bagh.

History

Chaman Ganj, developed slowly before and after the Independence of India. It has a large residential area with some small Cemeteries but has also many factories in its encompass like, pulses, detergent, oil refinery (small scale), saddlery, sandal and shoe manufacturing units. Chaman Ganj was named as this place used to have many grape yards in the past; hence the name Chaman Ganj

Chaman Ganj also houses Satyam, Roopam, Narain (lies on the border of Chaman Ganj and Becon Ganj) movie theaters which used to be a good source of entertainment to the people of Kanpur in older days but the tremendous demand of Multiplex have affected a lot to them and some of them are even out of entertainment business or have turned to a Banquet Hall.

Halim College Chauraha (Junction) is one of the most important junctions of Chaman Ganj which connects the place with other parts of the city. And the same junction is home to many Biryani [A rice dish cooked with spices and meat] Restaurants (both beef and chicken) which makes the junction all the more important.

Rupam Chauraha (Junction) is the other junction which connects the area with other important parts of the city and is home to all sorts of restaurants and are available for service 24*7.
