The British Rail Class 711[1] is a class of Aventra electric multiple units being built for c2c by Bombardier Transportation's Derby Litchurch Lane Works. They are due to enter service in 2021 on the London, Tilbury and Southend Line.

History

In 2016, c2c took possession of a total of six new 4-car Class 387 EMUs in order to begin implementing enhancements to its services on the London, Tilbury and Southend line. At the same time, the operator announced plans to tender for the procurement of a further 68 vehicles, divided into 17 4-car units, as part of its Essex Thameside franchise agreement.[2]

In 2017, c2c subsequently announced it had reached agreement with Bombardier to obtain 60 vehicles from its Aventra product range, formed into six 10-car trains, to enter service in approximately 2021.[3]

Features

The Class 711 will feature Wi-Fi, plug sockets and air conditioning.[3]
