Bible Ki Kahaniya (English: Stories from the Bible) is an Indian television program based upon the scriptures from the Bible in Hindustani language. The production aspired to complete both Old Testament and New Testament narrative of the Bible but was later discontinued. It was produced by Appachan and was broadcast on Doordarshan between 1993 and 1995.

It was one of the first serials in India to involve high budget and use of fast paced technology. Jijo, best known for directing landmark films in Malayalam cinema Padayottam (1982) and My Dear Kuttichathan (1984) based his chief reference point on novelist James Michener's The Source, a book that talks about the pains and passions of the people in bibilical times.[1]

Although successful in its early televise, DD stopped its broadcast abruptly because there was fear of communal tension due to certain episodes, in view of threats from certain Kashmiri militants who had objections with portrayal of Islamic prophets on screen and hostility from radical Hindu elements.[2] The characters were played by some of the important actors from Bollywood.[3]

Title Song

The original opening title song by music director Karthik Raja was based on biblical Psalms 116 with revised lyrics written in Urdu by Kaifi Azmi.

Aash'ko se jisne sin'che zamin, woh toh kate'ga ek din, fas'le hasi'n ki, fas'le Kushi Kee, hey yakee'n transliterated as With sorrow, he who has sown the land, one day he shall harvest crops of happiness, crops of joy, Indeed he shall.
