Awagne is a hamlet in Dinant, Wallonia region of Belgium.[1]
It was a hamlet in its own right until it consolidated with Dinant in 1977.
History
There was a chapel in Awagne from 824, dedicated to Saint Quentin.
Geography
Erected on the plateau of Condroz, the hamlet is a group of medium importance. There is a large farm, the presbytery, and the site of the old church. For the rest, there are houses and small limestone farms dating mainly from the nineteenth century.
The Awagne farm (rue St-Quentin)
This square farmhouse made of limestone and blue stone was called "Li Grand Cense" and also belonged to the Abbey of Leffe. The current building, built in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries for the most part, has some remains of the previous century.
Sold as a national property in 1796, it is known that the farm covered 119 Ha. Redeemed by three monks of the abbey, the farm was then divided between the Tournai seminary and the Charity Office of Monceau-sur-Sambre, which still own 2/3 of the plots. It was in 1891 that the town of Lisogne bought part of the garden of the farm to build the church Saint-Quentin.
