Arnold Viersen MP (born May 3, 1986) is a Canadian politician, who was elected to represent the riding of Peace River—Westlock in the House of Commons of Canada in the Canadian federal election, 2015.[1][2]
Prior to politics Viersen was a mechanic. He is a husband and father of two children. He's also the former treasurer of the Barrhead/Neerlandia chapter of the Association of Reformed Political Action. The Christian group is known for its opposition to Gay-Straight Alliances in Alberta schools and abortion.
On December 8, 2016, Mr. Viersen's Private Member's Motion (M-47) received unanimous consent in the House of Commons.[3] The official text of this motion reads: That the Standing Committee on Health be instructed to examine the public health effects of the ease of access and viewing of online violent and degrading sexually explicit material on children, women and men, recognizing and respecting the provincial and territorial jurisdictions in this regard, and that the said Committee report its findings to the House no later than July 2017.[4] The Health Committee's ensuing study was the first time the public health effects of porn, or even the issue of porn, were studied since 1985, which is before the World Wide Web was even invented.[5][6]
