AirportLink is an extended segment of the Miami Metrorail transit system that expanded the system from the existing Earlington Heights Station to the Miami Central Station, which was completed in 2012. The Orange line has 16 stations from Kendall through Downtown Miami as well as a direct connection to Miami International Airport at Central Station via the free MIA Mover airport people mover.

In May 2009, Miami-Dade County broke ground on the AirportLink Metrorail Extension Project, a 2.4-mile extension of Metrorail that will run from the existing Earlington Heights station to the Miami Intermodal Center (MIC), now under construction next to Miami International Airport (MIA). Opened in summer 2012, the AirportLink is considered the centerpiece of the People's Transportation Plan (PTP), approved by Miami-Dade voters in 2002. The bulk of the funding for the $506 million project will come from the PTP half-penny tax, with the Florida Department of Transportation contributing $101.3 million.

The AirportLink provides a fast, reliable Metrorail connection to MIA for the millions of residents, visitors and employees who travel to and from MIA every year. With this project, Miami-Dade County has joined the ranks of major metropolitan areas around the world with rapid transit connections to their airports.

The Miami Intermodal Center is a major centralized transportation hub developed by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) that provides access to several modes of transportation, including Metrobus, Metrorail, Tri-Rail, Amtrak, Greyhound, tour buses, taxi cabs and rental cars. An automated people mover (MIA Mover) connects the MIC to the airport.
