From มิถุน (“copulation, intercourse, mating; couple, pair; twin; etc”) +‎ อายน (“arrival; circulation; progress; etc”); literally "arrival of the twins (Gemini)"; coined by Devawongse Varoprakarn, first used officially in 2432 BE (1889/90 CE).
