From กรกฎ (gɔɔ-rá-gòt, “crab”) +‎ อาคม (aa-kom, “arrival”); literally "arrival of the crab (Cancer)"; coined by Devawongse Varoprakarn, first used officially in 2432 BE (1889/90 CE).
