From Sanskrit बृहस्पति (bṛhaspati, literally lord of prayer); probably via Old Khmer *brahaspati, braḥhassatīya or Angkorian Old Khmer bṛhaspati (Jupiter). Cognate with Modern Khmer ព្រហស្បតិ៍ (prɔhŏəh).
