Borrowed from Aramaic שׁוּשָׁא / ܫܽܘܫܳܐ (šūšā, licorice), from Akkadian 𒄑𒊺𒆕𒀀 (/sūsu, šūšu/, licorice); possibly related to Proto-Indo-European *swéh₂dus (sweet).
