The genitive singular of the personal pronoun minä, in most cases (with the possessive suffix -ni appended to the main word owned) translated with the possessive pronoun my; after the verb olla: mine:
- Minun äitini on 45 (= neljäkymmentäviisi) vuotta vanha.
  - My mother is 45 years old.
- Tämä kirja on minun.
  - This book is mine.
Used with verbs or verb structures that are used monopersonally such as pitää, täytyä, tulla, olla + passive present participle etc., and require genitive: translated into English I:
- Minun pitää/täytyy/tulee tehdä / on tehtävä tämä nyt.
  - I have to do this now.
