Finnish

Etymology

From Proto-Finnic *hepoinen, roughly equivalent to hepo + -inen. The weak grade v originates from Southwestern dialects, while the expected strong-grade heponen is only found in dialects, mainly in the southeast. Compare cognates in other Finnic languages such as Estonian hobune, Karelian hepoine.
