Etymology
From Proto-Celtic *ɸirnati, from Proto-Indo-European *perh₃-. Cognate with Ancient Greek ἔπορον (époron). The present stem is unattested in Old Irish, but the inflection as a B IV present (with n suffix) is confirmed by Middle Irish forms.
