St. Ives (Cambridgeshire)
St. Ives is een civil parish in het bestuurlijke gebied Huntingdonshire in het Engelse graafschap Cambridgeshire. St. Ives heeft een brug met een kapel, waar er maar vijf van zijn in Engeland. De St Ivesbrug gaat over de Great Ouserivier.

Geschiedenis
In 1001 stuitte een plaatselijke boer tijdens het ploegen op een oude stenen grafkist. Het werd toegeschreven aan de heilige Ives of Ivo, die in de 6e eeuw in deze omgeving zou hebben gepreekt, en op 24 april 1002 werd het stoffelijk overschot overgebracht naar de naburige abdij van Ramsey. Het dorp, voorheen bekend als Slepe, veranderde hierop zijn naam in St Ives. Omdat er sindsdien een Romeinse villa in de omgeving is gevonden, wordt thans aangenomen dat het oude graf nog enkele eeuwen ouder was.[1]
Onderwijs
In de jaren 1950 werd de St Ivo School voor voortgezet onderwijs opgericht, waar verschillende schrijvers, acteurs en sporters van naam hun opleiding hebben gevolgd. De school werd in 2008 aangewezen als Specialist Humanities School en beschikt sinds 2011 over de status van Academy. De school wordt zodoende niet langer door de lokale overheid maar vanuit landelijke middelen gefinancierd.
Sport
In St. Ives worden meerdere sporten en activiteiten beoefend, zoals rugby, voetbal, roeien, kanovaren, zwemmen en krachtsport. Een enkele keer vindt er een internationale "Sterkste Man" wedstrijd plaats. Van de St Ives Rowing Club hebben meerdere leden deelgenomen aan de Olympische Spelen.
