De attractie is gethematiseerd naar de film Song of the South, en is onder andere bekend vanwege het aanstekelijke liedje Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah. Aangezien tijdens de rit in het overdekte deel van de attractie verschillende objecten en animatronics te vinden zijn die naar deze film verwijzen, maakt dat Splash Mountain ook deels een darkride is. De hoogste val bedraagt 15 meter.
