In 1987 won hij A Song for Europe met het lied Only the light en mocht zo het Verenigd Koninkrijk vertegenwoordigen op het Eurovisiesongfestival in Brussel. Daar werd hij 13de wat de laagste positie voor het land was sinds de eerste deelname.
