Prednisolon
Prednisolon is een corticosteroïde ontstekingsremmer en de actieve metaboliet van prednison. In tegenstelling tot prednison - een prodrug van prednisolon - dat alleen oraal kan worden toegepast, kan prednisolon ook als injectie en als oogdruppel werkzaam zijn. Ook toepassing op de huid en rectale aanwending vereist prednisolon. Prednison moet immers eerst in de lever worden omgezet in prednisolon. Het FNA (Formularium der Nederlandse Apothekers) heeft twee dranken ontwikkeld van 1 en 5 mg per ml. Prednisolon is een bittere stof.
