Worthing West (UK Parliament constituency)

Worthing West is a constituency[n 1] represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since its 1997 creation by Sir Peter Bottomley, a Conservative.[n 2]

Boundaries

The constituency covers the central and western two-thirds portion of Worthing - Castle Ward, Central Ward, Durrington Ward, Goring Ward, Heene Ward, Marine Ward, Northbrook Ward, Salvington Ward, and Tarring Ward - in West Sussex. The eastern parts of the town are in the East Worthing and Shoreham constituency. It also contains the villages of Ferring, East Preston and Rustington in the district of Arun.

History

The constituency was created in 1997 when the previous constituencies, Worthing and Shoreham were re-divided. Prior to 1945, the territory of this constituency had been contained in the Horsham and Worthing seat.

The MP since the seat's creation is the Conservative Sir Peter Bottomley. He previously represented the Woolwich West and Eltham constituencies in south-east London from 1975 to 1997.

In 2019 this was the seat that gave the Conservatives an overall majority, being the 326th seat they won that election.
