Stadt Hannover II

Stadt Hannover II is one of the 299 single member constituencies used for the German parliament, the Bundestag. The constituency elects one representative under the mixed member proportional representation (MMP) system. Under the current constituency numbering system, it is designated as constituency 42.[1]

The constituency was created for the 1949 election, the first election in West Germany after World War II. Since its creation the constituency has been won by the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD).

Overview

Located in Lower Saxony, the constituency consists of the southern part of the independent city of Hanover and the districts of Ahlem, Badenstedt, Bemerode, Bornum, Bult, Calenberger Neustadt, Davenstedt, Döhren, Herrenhausen, Kirchrode, Limmer, Linden-Mitte, Linden-Nord, Linden-Süd, Mitte, Mittelfeld, Mühlenberg, Nordstadt, Oberricklingen, Ricklingen, Seelhorst, Südstadt, Waldhausen, Waldheim, Wettbergen, Wülfel, Wülferode.[2]

History

Upon creation for the 1949 election, the district was called Stadt Hannover-Süd and covered the Badenstedt, Döhren, Wülfel, Kirchrode, Kleefeld, Limmer, Linden and Ricklingen districts. The constituency was renamed Stadt Hannover II for the 1980 election. Since then, the constituency boundaries have remained unchanged.[3]
