Southern University, Bangladesh

Southern University Bangladesh (Bengali: সার্দান বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়) or (Southern) is a non-government university in Chittagong, Bangladesh. Southern was established as an Institute in 1998. Under the non-government University Act.The University Initiate & established by Prof. Sarwar Jahan in the year 2002 and got the approval from the Ministry of Education. Southern University is accredited by the University Grants Commission Bangladeshis the highest controlling authority for Government and Non-Government Universities in Bangladesh.

History

Southern University Bangladesh absorbed the Institute under the guidelines of University Grants Commission (UGC) Bangladesh (the highest accredited body for Bangladeshi universities). UGC and the Ministry of Education of the Government of Bangladesh approved Southern University Bangladesh in Chittagong, Bangladesh, under the non-government University Act.1992 & 1998.

Southern University Bangladesh originated from the establishment of an institute in 1998 as an affiliated higher education center of US and UK universities. After successful operation for a number of years, the promoters of the institute Sarwar Jahan conceived the idea of establishing a private University at Chittagong to cater to the increasing higher education needs of the port city. On the recommendation of the University Grants Commission (UGC), Ministry of Education the Government of Bangladesh accorded approval to this private University on January 14, 2003. The university is administered by Southern University Bangladesh Trust. Southern University Bangladesh has no campus anywhere in Bangladesh.
