Release
At the time of its release, Raktabhishekam was the most expensive film in Balakrishna's career. The film released with a massive hype garnered mixed reviews with criticism for its violence. The film had a terrific opening and enjoyed a housefull run for the first 14 days. The murder of Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga adversely affected the film's successful run. In certain places in the coastal Andhra, the film's cutouts were burnt and the reels were burnt due to which the film's screening was stopped for a few days. After 3 to 4 days when the screening was resumed, the film failed to gain momentum but still managed to make good profit. It had a direct run of 50 days in 14-16 centres across Andhra Pradesh. The film ran for 9 weeks in Kakinada and Guntur, 8 weeks in a few centres including Nellore, Kurnool and Vizag. It had a theatrical run of 50 days in Anantapur, Ongole, Rajahmundry etc. The film had a successful run in the Nizam region. The film was declared a Hit at the box office being the only Balakrishna film of the year 1988 to create a considerable impact at the box office.[6]
