Goonda is a 1984 Indian Telugu film directed by A. Kodandarami Reddy. This film stars Chiranjeevi, Radha, Kaikala Satyanarayana, Rao Gopal Rao and Allu Ramalingiah.

The film had the then biggest opening for a Chiranjeevi film as it was a film from Chiranjeevi-Kodandarami Reddy collaboration after the 1983 Blockbuster Khaidi. The film received praise for its risky action sequence in train in the climax shot without any body doubles. The film, however, failed to replicate the success of Khaidi but still became a Superhit at the box office. The film was dubbed into Hindi as Daaku Raaja.

Plot

Ravi (Chiranjeevi) is the son of a sincere Police officer (Satyanarayana). Ravi accidentally hurts his neighbour's eyes and becomes responsible for his blindness. Fearing that his father would scold him, he runs away from home and is brought up by a don in Calcutta, who names him Kalidas. The don dies in an encounter and Kali is asked to leave the world of crime and become a good citizen. Kalidas changes his name to Raja and while traveling in a train, saves his father, later realising their relationship. Because of his criminal background he does not reveal that he is his son. Satyanarayana takes him to his house and introduces Raja to his family members. His father is to face the local goons headed by Rao Gopala Rao. In the meantime he meets Radha and came to realise that she is the daughter of the person who became blind because of him. Raja helps her in having her father's eyesight returned and wins her heart. How he wins the hearts of his family members and helps his father in catching the local goondas is the rest of the story. This story was a novel wrote by a Telugu novelist "Girija sri bhagavan".Dialogues were written by "Paruchuri Brothers".Even though the film wasn't blockbuster hit, according to box-office collections it is a hit movie.But this plot of the story was later used in movies in different language films in India.In those some movies are blockbuster hits."Hum"(1992),a Hindi film lead role played by Amitabh Bachhan."Basha"(Tamil movie in 1994)was said as remake of "Hum" was industry hit in Tamil."Samarasimha Reddy"(1999) Telugu film story plot was an imitation of the movie.Actually Chiranjeevi was asked to act in the remake of "Basha" in 1994.But by his refusal it was dubbed in Telugu.But the dubbing version of "Basha" collected well in Andhra.

Production

Actor Chiranjeevi wanted to cast Radha in the lead role. However, Radha was then a very busy actress due to which her remuneration was more than the usual amount. Producer Middle Ramarao later revealed in an interview that both Chiranjeevi and Radha were given ₹2.5 lakhs as the remuneration. The film was made on a budget of ₹20 lakhs which was more than Palletoori Monagadu, the previous Chiranjeevi film produced by Ramarao.
