History

On April 16, 1853, the first train to visit the Manmad Junction railway station traveled from Mumbai to Thane. In May 1854, the Great Indian Peninsula Railway's Mumbai to Thane line was extended to the Kalyan Railway Station. The Bhusawal Junction Railway Station was built in 1861, but it was not opened for traffic until the mid-1860s. The track was extended to Khandwa in 1866 and again to Nagpur in 1867.[1][2]

Infrastructure

The Central Engineering Workshop is in Manmad, Maharashtra. Girder bridges are made in the structural yard and other manufacturing takes place in the general yard and workshop.[3]

Development of the station

Railways in the Niphad-Manmad-Nandgaon sector were switched to electric power. Locomotives (diesel and electromotive diesel) were also changed to use electricity between 1968 and 1969.[4] Manmad has an electric locomotive trip shed to supply and control the trains.[5] Free high-speed Wi-Fi for passengers has been provided since 2017.[6] Manmad Junction Railway Station is among the top-100 most-booked stations within the Indian Railways system.[7]

The Central Railway plans to double the line between Daund and Manmad.[8]
