List of number-one R&B singles of 1982 (U.S.)
These are the Billboard magazine R&B singles chart number one hits of 1982. 13 songs topped the chart during the year, with a 14th ("Let's Groove" by Earth, Wind & Fire) having begun its reign at the leader position the previous November. Six acts (Daryl Hall & John Oates, Skyy, Richard "Dimples" Fields, Dazz Band, Jennifer Holliday, and Zapp) reached the top position for the first time, while Aretha Franklin surpassed the record for the most number one hits previously held by James Brown when her single "Jump to It" topped the chart in September 1982.
"Sexual Healing" by Marvin Gaye spent ten weeks overall at the top position, eight of which occurred in 1982. The second-longest reign at the top was "That Girl" by Stevie Wonder at nine weeks, which was named the best performing R&B single of the year.
