These are the Billboard magazine R&B singles chart number one hits of 1978. The best-charting single of the year was "Serpentine Fire" which topped the charts for seven weeks in late 1977 and never reached number one during 1978; the highest-charting single to top the chart in 1978 was "Use ta Be My Girl" by The O'Jays.[1]
