Lavon, Texas

Lavon (/ləˈvɑːn/ lə-VAHN) is a city in Collin County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,219 at the 2010 census,[3] compared to 387 at the 2000 census.

Geography

Lavon is located in southeastern Collin County at 33°01′36″N 96°26′18″W.[4] The center of town is 1 mile (1.6 km) southeast of Lavon Dam on the East Fork of the Trinity River, forming Lavon Lake.

Texas State Highway 78 passes through Lavon, leading north 11 miles (18 km) to Farmersville and southwest 16 miles (26 km) to Garland. Texas State Highway 205 departs from Highway 78 on the west side of Lavon and leads south 6 miles (10 km) to Rockwall.

According to the United States Census Bureau, Lavon has a total area of 2.4 square miles (6.1 km2), of which 0.01 square miles (0.02 km2), or 0.39%, is water.[3]

At the 2000 census there were 387 people, 136 households, and 116 families in the town. The population density was 306.9 people per square mile (118.6/km2). There were 146 housing units at an average density of 115.8/sq mi (44.7/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 93.02% White, 1.03% Native American, 0.78% Asian, 2.07% from other races, and 3.10% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 7.49%.[1]

Of the 136 households 36.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 77.2% were married couples living together, 5.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 14.0% were non-families. 11.0% of households were one person and 6.6% were one person aged 65 or older. The average household size was 2.85 and the average family size was 3.03.

The age distribution was 24.8% under the age of 18, 5.9% from 18 to 24, 34.9% from 25 to 44, 23.0% from 45 to 64, and 11.4% 65 or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 100.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 103.5 males.

The median household income was $57,083 and the median family income was $61,250. Males had a median income of $42,143 versus $31,250 for females. The per capita income for the town was $20,711. None of the families and 1.3% of the population were living below the poverty line, including no under eighteens and 10.5% of those over 64.

The 2010 Census showed the population to be 2,219.

Lavon is served by the Community Independent School District.
