Co-Curricular

A concert organised by the students of Lahore Grammar School

The School's co-curricular activities are popular among the youth of Lahore. They range from educational events to completely enjoyment programmes. Most of the branches have an ecological society, which campaigns against the degreening of Lahore, and the concomitant decline in Lahore's air quality. Many branches have a community service program, proving students with opportunities to volunteer at organisations. Some of these include the Pakistan Society for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled, the Rising Sun Institute, Fatima Memorial Hospital, the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP), and Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital.[cit Different clubs are arranged for the academic body, including debating and MUN societies, with teenagers participating in tournaments both locally and internationally.

Bonfires are an annual tradition for junior branches. Each branch has its own event. The event is an opportunity for pupils to take a brief break from schoolwork, helping them interact with each other in a way that enhances their social skills.

An event called GSL also takes place near the end of school in GSL or Grammar Super League children dress as cricketers and have a cricket tournament in which the winner receives a trophy.

Lahore grammar school is giving opportunities to its students to enhance not just academically, but also in various co-curricular activities. The school has various societies including MUN, debates and drama society. These opportunities given to students ensure that they are successfully able to pursue in these fields, with alumni like Fawad Khan and Momina Musthesan on the list.

Annual Interschool events are also held, including Grammathon, Grammun and Grammanation. These events usually host up to 500 delegates and are mainly managed by the student body, therefore contributing to their skills outside the classroom. The events are mostly followed by social events such as concerts, talent shows, fashion walks and qawwali nights.

Concerts by famous musical bands are held annually. The bands may be local or even the school's own bands. All major branches put on an annual play, in Punjabi, Urdu or English. Plays like Andhera Ujala were screened on television channels whereas Khatra-e-Jaan which had a number of LGS participants also received favorable reviews across Lahore.[2] The school's network has gone on educational trips to Lahore, all over Pakistan and to abroad countries including India,[3] China, the United States, Uzbekistan, Greece, Spain, and Egypt.[4][5]

Some Upper middle class students also study at Lahore Grammar School but mainly at its landmark project. The DHA Phase 5 campus is known for being liberal, in terms of student relations and dress code. It’s liberal attitude has landed it in controversy within the LGS system.

There are many online forums where students talk to each other most of these are located on Facebook and whats app but some of these are also few on discord and instagram

Controversy

December 2019

In December 2019, Lahore Grammar School had forced the parents of their female students to pay 30,000 pkr for a 4-day trip to Islamabad, an amount which felt as a burden to most parents.

“I hardly meet the challenge of fee payment to the school and other costs of daily transportation and others costs that now I'm being asked for to pay heavy amount for just a four-day trip for my daughter,” a mother seeking anonymity complained about Lahore Grammar School. “This is nothing but a modern and descent way to plunder the hard-earned money of middle class parents like us,” said the woman while objecting to the policy of the school concerned.[6]

The management of Lahore Grammar School adopted a very “cunning approach” by seizing even the legal rights of the parents of the girl students if anything wrong happened to their daughters during a four-day trip to Islamabad. Worse is that Lahore Grammar School was planning this trip on during a time when there was smog which could have damaged the students' lungs. "The very logic behind the winter vacations that are starting from Dec 20 is nothing but safety and protection of children and teenagers from the harsh winter seasons but this management has decided to take them to Islamabad—and school management, surprisingly, is not ready even to take responsibility of their daughters'’ safety and protection during this winter season trip", another woman expressed her concerns.[6] "We have been asked by the school management to sign a draft –which clearly saying that the management of school will not be responsible if anything happened to their daughters", the mother of girl student said. She questioned that what is this policy of this school.[6]

Every girl student's payment is Rs30,000 which will be roughly Rs3,000,000 with only 100 students—and yet it has not been cleared by the Lahore Grammar School management that how many students were paying this “trip fee”. The parents say that the school management also emotionally blackmail the students who refuse to go as the fellow students, psychologically, degrade them over their refusal or failure to their trip to Islamabad.
