Kildale railway station serves the village of Kildale in North Yorkshire, England. It is located on the Esk Valley Line and is operated by Northern Trains who provide passenger services between Middlesbrough and Whitby.

History

The station opened on 6 April 1858,[1] when the North Yorkshire and Cleveland Railway extended their line from Ingleby Junction railway station (now named Battersby) to Kildale. The next extension eastwards to Commondale and Castleton opened in April 1861.[2]

The station used to have a passing loop and a wooden bridge across the station that allowed access to St Cuthbert's Church on the north side of the line. Sometime during 1880–1881, the North Eastern Railway company replaced the wooden bridge with a cast iron one.[3]

Monday to Saturday, five trains operate each way.

For many years, four trains would operate each way between March and November only. As of the timetable change in December 2017, the Sunday service started to operate all year round.[4]
